Bin Liner Size Guide NZ: 60L, 80L, 120L, 240L

A bag that’s too small slips into the bin. A bag that’s too big wastes plastic and money. Here’s how to get it right.

Step 1: Know your bin

Check the bin’s capacity in litres. It’s usually printed on the base or the lid. If it isn’t, measure the height, width and depth, or ask us and we’ll help you work it out.

Step 2: Match the bag to the bin

Bin Best Purple size Bag dimensions Pack
Kitchens, offices and general commercial bins 60L 630 x 900mm 50 per packet, 10 packets per carton
Larger commercial bins and bulk waste 80L 810 x 1000mm 50 per packet, 8 packets per carton
120L wheelie bin 120L 925 x 1200mm 25 per packet, 8 packets per carton
240L wheelie bin 240L 1125 x 1500mm 30 per packet, 5 packets per carton

Step 3: Allow for overhang

A good liner is taller than the bin, so it folds over the rim and stays put. If a bag keeps slipping in, size up.

Step 4: Think about the load

Heavy, wet or sharp waste needs a thicker bag. Our 60L, 80L and 240L bags are 30mu, and the 120L is 33mu. Tell us what you’re putting in the bag and we’ll advise. For more on thickness and what changes with recycled bags, read Recycled vs Standard Bin Liners.

Step 5: Think about volume

Order enough for the month so you don’t run out. Bags come in packets, and packets come in cartons, so it’s easy to work out how many you need.
