Vikan Handles Explained: Euro Thread, Materials and Lengths

A good handle system saves money and storage space. Instead of a separate handle on every brush, scraper and squeegee, you keep a few handles and swap the heads. Vikan's Euro thread is what makes that work. This guide explains how it works and how to choose the right handle for the job.

What is the Euro thread?

Vikan's Euro threaded handles screw into the matching thread on its brushes, squeegees, scrapers and other tools. Vikan says the Euro threading ensures secure tool attachment and prevents loosening during use. Many Vikan tools are described as compatible with all Vikan Euro threaded handles, including the Ultra Hygiene Squeegee, the Floor Squeegee with Replacement Cassette and many scrapers.

Because the tool heads and handles are separate, you can match handle colour to the head, swap a worn head without replacing the handle, and use different heads on the same handle for different jobs, within the same zone.

Choosing a handle

The main choices are material, length and diameter.

Stainless steel handles. The Vikan Stainless Steel Handle (Ø31 mm, 1025 mm) is suitable for areas where aggressive chemicals are used. It is made from AISI 304 stainless steel and polypropylene, with vertical ridges and a matte finish for grip even with wet or greasy hands. Vikan says it fits products in its Hygiene, Transport and Classic ranges.

Aluminium handles. Lightweight aluminium handles (Ø31 mm) come in longer lengths such as 1310 mm and 1510 mm, in Vikan's colour range. Choose them for longer reach with less weight.

Ultra Hygienic handles. The Ultra Hygienic Handle (Ø32 mm) comes in 1300, 1500 and 1700 mm lengths and in a range of colours. Choose these where hygienic design is the priority.

Telescopic handles. An aluminium telescopic handle (Ø32 mm) extends from about 1.6 m to 2.8 m, which helps reach high or awkward spots, such as overhead pipework.

Wooden handles. For brooms with a threaded connection, the Vikan Wooden Handle (Ø25 mm, 1560 mm) is made of FSC 100% certified wood and regenerated polypropylene. It is intended for commercial and industrial use rather than hygiene-critical zones.

Length and diameter

A handle should let a person work with a straight back and relaxed arms. For floor work such as squeegeeing, a 1300 to 1500 mm handle suits most people. Choose longer handles for tall users or deep tanks, and shorter ones for benches and close work. Keep the handle colour matched to the zone.
