Food-Safe Squeegees NZ: How to Choose the Right One

Choosing a Food-Safe Squeegee: Floor, Ultra Hygiene or Soft Blade

A squeegee is the fastest way to move water off a floor, wall or table. In a food site, standing water is a slip risk and a breeding ground for bacteria, so how you remove it matters. This guide compares the main types of Vikan squeegee so you can pick the right one.

What to look for in a food-safe squeegee

  • A blade that follows the surface. A flexible blade keeps contact on uneven floors and clears more water.
  • Easy to clean. Fewer joins and gaps mean fewer places for dirt and bacteria to hide.
  • Resistance to cleaning chemicals. Squeegees are used with strong detergents and sanitisers.
  • A colour that fits your zone. Match the squeegee to the area, as in your hygienic zoning plan.

Ultra Hygiene Squeegee

The Ultra Hygiene Squeegee is built for high-risk areas of food manufacturing. Its blade is fully moulded in one piece, so there are no common harbourage points or contamination traps. It also has:

  • An angled blade for corners and hard-to-reach areas
  • A built-in splash guard that keeps liquid from running onto surfaces that are already dry
  • The ability to remove dry powders from smooth surfaces
  • Polypropylene and TPE rubber construction, with part of the plastic made from ISCC-certified bio-circular sources

It comes in 400, 500 and 600 mm widths. Choose this model where hygiene is the top priority, such as walls, floors and tables in processing areas.

Floor Squeegee with Replacement Cassette

This double-bladed squeegee uses cellular rubber blades to remove large amounts of water quickly. Vikan describes its squeegees as its most effective solution for moving water fast. The cassette comes out easily for cleaning or replacement, so you replace only the blade, not the whole squeegee. That cuts running costs and waste.

It comes in 400, 500 and 600 mm widths, and replacement cassettes are sold separately. Choose this model for wide, wet floors and washdown areas where you get through blades regularly. Keep a spare cassette on hand.

Soft-blade squeegees

Some jobs need a gentler touch. The Ultra Hygiene Flex Squeegee is a single-blade squeegee with a softer, more flexible blade, as shown on Vikan's international site. The Wipe-N-Shine (350 mm) has a soft rubber blade that is safe on windows and painted surfaces, which makes it handy for vehicles, glass and finished surfaces. It threads onto any Vikan Euro handle or can be used by hand.

Size, colour and storage
