Franchise Earning Potential NZ | No Income Ceiling
How Much Can a Franchise Owner Earn in New Zealand?
If you're considering buying a franchise, there's one question you're almost certainly going to ask:
How much can I earn?
With a Hygiene Direct franchise, our answer is different from the answer you'd receive when applying for a job.
There is no salary band. There is no predetermined income ceiling.
Your earning potential is ultimately related to the business you build – and a large part of that comes down to your persistence.
There Is No Income Ceiling
When you're employed, someone else generally decides what your role is worth.
You might be an exceptional salesperson. You might bring in significant new business. You might consistently outperform the people around you.
But ultimately, you're still working within somebody else's salary, commission or remuneration structure.
Owning a Hygiene Direct franchise is fundamentally different.
There is no predetermined ceiling on what your business can grow into.
If you want a larger business, you can keep prospecting.
You can keep finding customers.
You can keep building relationships.
You can keep adding repeat business.
The opportunity doesn't stop because you've reached the top of a salary band.
Persistence Matters More Than Almost Anything Else
You don't have to be the world's greatest salesperson to build a successful sales business.
But you do need to be persistent.
Some prospective customers will say no.
Some won't return your call.
Some will already have a supplier they're perfectly happy with.
And sometimes you'll have to contact a business several times before you get an opportunity.
That's sales.
The difference often comes down to what you do next.
Do you stop?
Or do you keep going?
One more call. One more visit. One more follow-up. One more prospective customer.
Persistence creates opportunities.
And in a Hygiene Direct franchise, those opportunities have the potential to become something particularly valuable – repeat customers.
One New Customer Can Be Worth Much More Than One Sale
Hygiene Direct supplies products businesses and organisations continually consume.
Toilet paper.
Paper towels.
Rubbish bags.
Cleaning chemicals.
Gloves.
And a wide range of other commercial cleaning and hygiene products.
A customer doesn't generally buy these products once.
They use them.
Then they need more.
That means the effort you put into winning a new customer today can potentially generate sales next month, the month after that and well into the future – provided you continue looking after the relationship.
Then you go and find another customer.
And another.
And another.
That's where persistence can become incredibly powerful.
Think About What Happens Over Several Years
Imagine two franchisees start with exactly the same opportunity.
One actively prospects every week, follows up leads, visits prospective customers, asks for the business and keeps looking for the next opportunity.
The other prospects occasionally and waits for opportunities to come to them.
After one month, the difference might not look enormous.
After a year, it could be significant.
After five years, they could have built two completely different businesses.
That's why we believe your franchise earning potential is closely connected to your persistence.
The Hygiene Direct system provides the platform.
You decide how hard you want to keep pushing it.
What Has Actually Been Achieved at Hygiene Direct?
We don't need to rely entirely on projections to demonstrate what's possible within the Hygiene Direct system.
Our highest-performing Hygiene Direct franchisee consistently earned approximately $180,000 per year while continuing to grow his business.
Importantly:
$180,000 wasn't an income ceiling.
It was simply what one franchisee had achieved at that stage of building his business.
He continued growing because there were still more customers to find and more opportunities to pursue.
Eventually, he sold his franchise back to Hygiene Direct Head Office and became our Sales Director.
Today, part of his role is supporting and mentoring our franchisees using the experience he gained from successfully building a Hygiene Direct franchise himself.
Does That Mean You'll Earn $180,000?
No.
And we want to be very clear about that.
There is no guaranteed income from owning a Hygiene Direct franchise.
Just as there's no income ceiling, there's also no guarantee that simply buying the franchise will produce a particular result.
We provide the brand, products, systems, supplier relationships, experience, Head Office support and mentoring.
But we can't provide the persistence.
That's the part you bring.
You have to make the calls.
You have to visit the prospective customers.
You have to follow up.
You have to ask for the business.
You have to look after the customers you've already won.
And then you have to get up tomorrow and do it again.
Build Your Customer Base, Then Keep Building
This is one of the things we particularly like about the Hygiene Direct business model.
You're not necessarily starting from zero again every month.
Every good repeat customer you retain becomes part of the foundation you're building upon.
So your sales activity isn't only about generating this month's income.
You're potentially building next month's sales as well.
Win customers.
Look after them.
Keep them.
Then keep prospecting for more.
There's no point where Hygiene Direct says:
“That's enough customers. You can't grow any further.”
Your territory represents an opportunity for you to develop.
How much of that opportunity you capture comes down substantially to you.
Your Persistence Is Building an Asset Too
There's another major difference between persistence as an employee and persistence as a business owner.
If you're a salesperson working for somebody else, your persistence helps build their customer base.
When you're building your own Hygiene Direct franchise, that same persistence is helping build your business.
And potentially, its value.
A successful franchise isn't just a source of today's income.
Over time, a strong base of repeat customers and recurring sales can contribute towards creating a business that somebody else may eventually want to buy.
We've recently seen exactly that within Hygiene Direct.
Our Northland franchise was placed on the market and sold within approximately two months.
The purchasers were particularly interesting.
They were two existing Hygiene Direct customers.
They had experienced the business from the customer's side, liked what they saw and ultimately decided they wanted to become part of it themselves.
Our First Franchisees Are Still Here 10 Years Later
We're interested in building businesses for the long term.
Our first two Hygiene Direct franchisees joined us approximately 10 years ago.
Both are still with Hygiene Direct today.
They've spent a decade building customer relationships and operating their businesses within the Hygiene Direct network.
That's something we're extremely proud of.
We don't want to simply sell someone a franchise.
We want motivated people who see the opportunity, are prepared to pursue it and want to build something substantial over time.
How Big Do You Want to Build It?
Perhaps that's a better question than:
“How much can I earn?”
The question might be:
“How big am I prepared to build my business?”
There is no predetermined Hygiene Direct salary.
There is no fixed income band.
And there is no artificial income ceiling.
Your results will depend on many things – your sales, margins, expenses, customer retention, territory and how effectively you operate your business.
But one factor remains firmly within your control:
your persistence.
Keep prospecting.
Keep following up.
Keep winning customers.
Keep looking after them.
Then keep going.
Because every customer you add has the potential to become another piece of the business you're building for yourself.
