Practical Sustainability for New Zealand Businesses

At Hygiene Direct, sustainability isn't just about the products we sell, it's about helping businesses make practical choices that reduce waste, improve efficiency and support New Zealand's environment.

Whether it's eliminating unnecessary plastic packaging, supporting local recycling or helping customers reduce product consumption, we're committed to making sustainability achievable without compromising quality or performance.

Our Commitment

We're continually looking for better ways to reduce our environmental impact while helping our customers reduce theirs.

Our sustainability initiatives include:

  • Plastic packaging-free products
  • New Zealand-made recycled products
  • Supporting a genuine circular economy through our Best Purple Recycled Rubbish Bags
  • Environmentally responsible paper products
  • Recycled plastic washroom dispensers for a more sustainable washroom fit-out
  • Helping customers reduce product consumption and waste
  • Supplying quality products that last longer and perform better

Plastic Packaging Free

We're proud to offer one of New Zealand's largest ranges of commercial paper products supplied with no plastic packaging.

Any product displaying our Plastic Packaging Free logo is packaged without plastic—including the carton sealing tape, which is paper rather than plastic.

Our plastic packaging-free range includes selected:

Choosing these products helps reduce unnecessary plastic entering your workplace while maintaining the same quality and performance.

A True New Zealand Circular Economy

Best Recycled Purple Bags

Sustainability isn't just about recycling—it's about keeping valuable materials in use.

Through our Best Purple Recycled Rubbish Bags, used pallet shrink wrap is collected from customers, recycled in Palmerston North and transformed into quality commercial rubbish bags before being supplied back to New Zealand businesses.

It's a practical example of a true circular economy, keeping valuable materials in New Zealand while supporting local manufacturing.

Nitrile Glove Recycling – GloveCycle

Disposable nitrile gloves are essential in many workplaces, but they can also create a significant waste stream.

Hygiene Direct's GloveCycle Programme gives New Zealand businesses a practical way to divert eligible used Hytec nitrile gloves from landfill.

Collected gloves are repurposed and converted into aggregate material that can be used in concrete products such as pavers, blocks and concrete slabs. Larger-volume users can also receive reporting showing the amount of glove waste they have diverted from landfill.

The programme is already producing measurable results, with Te Pae Christchurch Convention Centre diverting 1,171 gloves from landfill in the first month of its programme trial.

GloveCycle is available to Hygiene Direct customers nationwide.
